Distance learning for children with disabilities

Rostelecom’s project of distance teaching of children with disabilities allows every child, regardless of the place of residence and distance from big cities, get a good education. The Internet is installed in children's institutions on the basis of "Fiber To The Home" technology. Children receive a quality service due to which they can broaden their horizons and feel like full members of society.

Thanks to the Internet from Rostelecom, children with disabilities study the school curriculum at home. Teachers taking part in the project were trained in special courses to master the skills of remote teaching of school subjects. The education is provided in real time mode with the help of an interactive video link, during which the teachers monitor the students' knowledge and assess it.

In 2012, Rostelecom provided access to the Internet to 362 children from Krasnodar Region. 32 other children, who could not attend school, were engaged in distance learning. In 2013, due to the implementation of the project, 394 children in Kuban region were able to study by specially designed training programs and keep in touch with teachers in real time. Rostelecom also provided Internet to 615 families of the disabled children of Krasnodar Territory.

In 2015-2016, Rostelecom provided Internet access to participants of distance education in the Middle Urals, the Republic of Adygea, Krasnodar Territory and Perm Territory, Rostov-on-Don, and Tyumen Region. Children living not only in cities and district centers, but also in remote settlements got access to Internet information resources.

In 2017, 288 children with disabilities from 70 settlements were educated remotely in Novosibirsk Region. Rostelecom organized Internet access points, connected software and hardware packages to the homes of students, as well as at the workplaces of 137 teachers.

In 2018, more than a thousand children with disabilities received access to distance education.
