Moscow, Russia – September 18, 2020 – Rostelecom PJSC (MOEX: RTKM, RTKMP; OTCQX: ROSYY), the largest integrated digital service provider in Russia, today announces the launch of a new data centre in South Sakhalin City.

The new data centre will ensure stable and seamless operation of data processing and storage facilities, as well as protected communication channels for data exchange. The initial total capacity is expected to be 1.5 MW and 25 racks (with a potential to be expanded to 180 racks). The data centre has proven reliability with uninterruptible power supply and conditioning and is equipped with all necessary fire alarm and protection systems.

In order to ensure the highest reliability levels of data transmission the new centre connects to the mainland via a high-speed backbone communication line with three levels of reservation. This is particularly important for heavy loaded digital projects in the Far East, such as Digital Region, Smart City and Safe City which provides intellectual video surveillance and analytics services, and other projects.

Valery Limarenko, the Governor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk:
“The launch of Rostelecom’s data centre is an important step on the digital transformation journey that the entire region is currently undergoing. All of our cornerstone projects in urban infrastructure, maritime transportation and logistics, R&D and healthcare are in need for smart data storage and transmission capacities, which this new centre will help provide. It is important that this new facility becomes a central data processing hub that will serve all of the Russian Far East, which is why it was opened in Sakhalin.

Igor Zimin, Vice President for Applied Projects of Rostelecom:
“Global digital economy can’t function properly without reliable data cycle, which includes big data collection, storage and processing. Data centres are therefore instrumental for sustainable functioning of the State and businesses in the current environment. Not only will our first turnkey industrial data centre become a reliable partner for the State and corporate clients in the Sakhalin region, but it will also connect other regions in the Far East that will be able to enjoy its resources with a multi-level reservation.”
