Rostelecom to protect TechnoServ Cloud from DDOS attacks
Moscow, Russia – February 13, 2018 – Rostelecom PJSC (“the Company”) (MOEX: RTKM, RTKMP; OTCQX: ROSYY), Russia’s national telecommunications operator, today announces that it has signed an agreement TechnoServ Cloud on traffic monitoring and DDoS protection services.
“DDoS attacks have become a common tool for unfair competition, and at the same time, DDoS is cheap, easy to use, and readily available on the Internet. The approximate cost of a DDoS attack, according to Kaspersky Lab experts' research, starts from USD25 per hour. The intensity of generated attacks increases every year. Where in 2013 the attacks were up to 300 Gbit/s, today, the most intensive recorded attack has reached 1Tbit/s. Obviously, companies are forced to protect themselves from the associated risks”.
“Our solution for DDoS attacks protection was developed on a basis of one of the world's most powerful carrier-class platforms. We have been dealing with DDoS attacks for more than 8 years with facilities throughout Russia and traffic cleaning centers, allowing for 24/7 traffic monitoring service. The company employs more than 50 engineers, experts in DDoS attacks prevention and repulse. On average, Rostelecom records more than 15 incidents daily, with a capacity of more than 10 Gbit/s. The efficiency of our solution is confirmed by the successful implementation of major projects in the information security space, such as protection of the information resources during the Olympic Games in Sochi”.
DDoS-attacks (Distributed Denial of Service) are one of the most common threats in terms of business information security. The purpose of DDoS attacks is to disable a company’s website or servers through a constant stream of requests coming from tens and hundreds of thousands of infected computers or other devices, often scattered around the world. The infrastructure of an attacked company, regardless of its capacity, often does not withstand the load, exceeding the norm by several orders of magnitude, and thus, fails. This, in turn, leads to unfortunate consequences such as reputation damage, money loss, and sometimes, even business interruption.
The “Traffic monitoring and DDoS protection” service provides information security of the data located in TechnoServ Cloud database and transmitted over the Internet. The traffic is constantly monitored by Rostelecom's analysis system and, if there is any sign of hackers attack, it is immediately redirected to a clearing center, whereafter it is sent to online customer services in a legitimate and clean state.
In addition to using Rostelecom’s service for its own resources, Technoserv Cloud has developed a "DDoS-attacks Protection" service. First of all, it is pertinent to businesses operating on a cloud infrastructure, such as online-stores, online booking services, electronic trading platforms, mass media, electronic payment systems, as well as government bodies and financial institutions.
The solution is offered in addition to the "Internet Access" service which allows to repel attacks with a capacity of up to 160 Gbit/s, when it comes to web-applications and doesn’t require any personnel involvement. Technoserv Cloud provides to its clients a round-the-clock technical support and online access to traffic statistics via a web interface as well as regular reports.
